CAS Customers Showcase VR Simulation Serious Games at Rail Live

Chrome Angel Solutions joined the rail industry at Rail Live, demonstrating how immersive technologies and Serious Games are helping transform the way railway organisations train, collaborate and explore innovative new technology.

Throughout the event, CAS supported customers across three exhibition stands, each showcasing a VR Simulation Serious Game developed using our railway simulation platform.

Bringing rail innovation to life with immersive simulation

At the Network Rail RD&I Innoverse stand, visitors experienced an immersive virtual railway environment designed to showcase Network Rail’s latest innovation projects. Built on CAS’s VR railway platform, the simulation brings together multiple emerging technologies within one interactive experience.

Users could explore realistic railway scenarios featuring advanced track systems, drone-enabled security response and new inspection technologies. Through guided exploration, model visualisation and interactive activities, the experience demonstrated how complex innovations can be communicated in a more engaging and accessible way.

By creating a shared virtual environment, the simulation helps stakeholders understand the potential benefits of new technologies – from improving safety and reducing costs to accelerating adoption and supporting the industry’s net zero ambitions.

Enhancing maintenance training with VR Simulation

Network Rail also showcased the new High Performance Switch System (HPSS) VR Simulation, an interactive maintenance training simulation designed to support railway staff learning to maintain and fault-find this next-generation switch technology.

The simulation places users in a realistic virtual railway environment where they can carry out maintenance tasks, investigate faults and make decisions in a safe, controlled setting. Unlike traditional training environments, VR allows trainees to experience scenarios that can be difficult, expensive or impractical to recreate in the real world.

By enabling users to explore, practise and learn from outcomes, including mistakes, the experience helps build confidence, competence and decision-making skills while complementing existing training approaches.

Testing new ideas through immersive prototypes

At the ReadyPower stand visitors took on the Superbug 300 Challenge — a prototype VR simulation developed to explore how immersive technology could support cab familiarisation for plant operators.

The interactive experience challenges users to operate a virtual Superbug road rail vehicle, “rail” it into position and then hit as many targets as possible with the bucket to achieve a place on the leaderboard. The prototype has successfuly demonstrated how engaging game-based approaches can be used to support familiarisation, learning and skills development.

Eight years of railway VR Simulation development

Over the last 8 years CAS has been investing in developing VR Simulation Serious Games to build awareness, competence and confidence for moments that matter in the rail industry. Working closely with our technology partner Totem Learning and a wide range of fantastic industry partners we have built a highly scalable reusable VR railway simulation platform that enables new applications to be developed rapidly, dramatically reducing the time and cost typically associated with creating bespoke simulation solutions.

By combining deep rail industry knowledge with advanced immersive technology, CAS is helping organisations explore new ways to train and assess people, demonstrate innovation and improve operational outcomes.

Rail Live provided a fantastic opportunity to share these capabilities with the wider industry and demonstrate how VR Simulation Serious Games are playing a growing role in the future of rail.
