Chrome Angel Solutions (CAS) recently exhibited at the Rail Industry Road Safety Conference 2026, hosted by Network Rail and the Rail Safety and Standards Board (RSSB). The event brought together safety, fleet and operational professionals from across the rail industry to explore practical approaches to reducing occupational road risk under the theme Work Safe. Drive Safe. Home Safe.
Taking place ahead of Road Safety Week in July, the Conference’s mail goal was to raise awareness, share best practice and inspire action to reduce risk across all work-related journeys.
During the conference, CAS showcased two interactive training applications, available through immersive VR headsets and tablet devices:
- Staying Safe on the Railway – Chapter 2: Driving
- Ambulance Make Ready
The demonstrations gave delegates the opportunity to experience realistic operational scenarios and see how simulation-based learning can improve engagement, decision-making and knowledge retention.
The Staying Safe on the Railway game is built around the rail industry’s Life Saving Rules, using realistic scenarios to challenge unsafe behaviours and encourage safer decision-making.
The Driving chapter focuses on:
- Occupational road risks faced by rail employees and contractors
- Recognising unsafe behaviours and critical decision points
- Reinforcing safe choices through consequence-based learning
The application supports industry efforts to improve driver behaviour and reduce road-related incidents by allowing users to experience the consequences of their decisions in a safe, controlled environment.
CAS also demonstarted Ambulance Make Ready, a simulation designed to support the consistent execution of structured, safety-critical tasks.
The application covers:
- Vehicle and equipment preparation
- Identification of omissions and errors
- Consistent completion of repeatable operational procedures
Although developed for healthcare, delegates recognised clear opportunities to apply the same approach within rail operations, including fleet preparation, inspections and maintenance readiness.
Across both demonstrations, CAS highlighted how simulation-based training enables organisations to:
- Deliver realistic operational scenarios in a safe environment
- Standardise training across teams and locations
- Reinforce correct behaviours through interactive learning rather than passive instruction
By supporting both VR headsets and tablet devices, the applications can be deployed flexibly to suit different roles, locations and operational requirements.
The conference reinforced the industry’s continued focus on reducing occupational road risk and improving workforce safety.
